“In our society, it can be hard to notice someone in need.  I don’t run across too many naked, beaten men lying along the road [like the Good Samaritan did].  How do we know someone is unable to clean her house because of illness?  How do we know someone needs a ride to a doctor’s appointment?  How do we know a single mom can’t afford to repair her car?  How do we know someone struggles with loneliness?

That’s where Love In the Name of Christ comes in.  Love INC’s job is to identify needs and make them known to the churches and church volunteers.  Your job is to be the Good Samaritan, to respond to the person in need with love in the Name of Christ.

Our vision for Love INC is that church volunteers can meet every need we identify in our community so that everyone we help can experience the love of Jesus Christ in their lives. There are many ways to get involved to be Jesus to your neighbor in need through volunteering for your church through Love INC – We encourage new volunteers to attend a one-hour orientation class to learn about ways to be placed in service to others. Call (907) 452-3876 to find out when the next orientation will be and to reserve a spot.

Or ask your local church Contact Person how you can be of assistance within your own congregation.  We use the Talent Tithe surveys to match resources within the church with needs in the community. You may download a hard-copy of the survey, or simply fill out our online form.

Church Contact Persons serve as the vital informational link between their faith community and Love In the Name of Christ of the Tanana Valley.  A church Contact Person helps inform, recruit and encourage the church’s volunteers. As a liaison, the Church Contact Person keeps the church informed of Love INC ministry opportunities and the needs in the community, as well as informing Love INC of the talents and passion for ministry in their church.  If your church does not have a Contact Person, and you are interested in serving in this capacity talk to your pastor, priest or clergyman before contacting Love INC.

There is no Love in the Name of Christ of the Tanana Valley without church volunteers. Love INC’s work is accomplished through volunteer service, offered freely in the Name of Christ. Love INC volunteers are members of local Christian churches. Almost all volunteers belong to Love INC partner churches, although a few people who have volunteered for Love INC are members of other local churches.

Love INC, in partnership with local churches, offers a wide variety of opportunities for volunteer service such as:

• Clearinghouse-referral service

is where you would respond to one person’s specific need, as it is referred to you by the Love INC Clearinghouse office or by your Contact Person. In essence, this means that you let your Church Contact Person or the Love INC office know, via a Talent Tithe, that you are willing to provide certain specific services for someone in need. Then, if and when someone calls Love INC with that need, you may receive a call to respond. With Clearinghouse-related service, there is no guarantee that you WILL be called upon; you place your offered skills into our “inventory” to be called upon if and when the need arises. Please check our listing of Client Services on the Ministry page for a description of areas where volunteers can serve their neighbors through the ministry of Love INC.

• Love INC Office / Clearinghouse service
You will work in our office in one of many possible capacities. Possibilities include being a phone volunteer in the Telephone Clearinghouse, or volunteer in the office doing administrative work, computer work, phone work, data entry, and more. Job descriptions are available; time commitments vary. Love INC Clearinghouse and office volunteers make the ministry to clients and communication with churches a reality!
• Love INC Board or Committee service

Love INC Board or Committee service opportunities vary greatly so please contact the Love INC office if interested. You will be interviewed by the Love INC Nominations Chairperson. Love INC Board membership is limited in size, and is comprised of individuals from partner churches who have specific gifts, talents and professional expertise needed for board governance.

Remember, Love INC relies wholly upon volunteers to serve FNSB residents in need – we have no staff to meet these needs; it is all done by Christians who desire to manifest the love of Christ on behalf of others. Other ways you can get involved are:

• Offering your professional Services or products such as car repair, dental help, chiropractic, counseling, legal aid, tax preparation, hair cuts, vision (exams and glasses), and more.
• Organizing a fund-raiser for Love INC – Church groups and individuals raise donations through bake sales, chili cook offs, “Sound Off for Poverty” youth media fasts or other youth activities, golf scrambles, auctions, concerts and more.
• Product Donations – Donate new or used quality items. Call 452-3876 for drop-off hours, locations and types of accepted donation items.  Donations are tax deductible.
• Financial Donations – Donate a financial gift to support the ministry by mail or on-line.
